March’s Free Games Preview

An interesting selection of games to ease you into longer days and warmer temperatures. The Switch makes its debut too (but no news on when the free game goes live), so let’s see what you guys will be enjoying as freebies this month.

Xbox One

  • Layers of Fear (March 1-30) – psychological horror based on the madness of a painter. Probably one for only hardcore horror fans.
  • Evolve: Ultimate Edition (March 16-April 15) – asymmetric first person arena combat. Four players are the hunter. One is the monster. Hunt the monster before it hunts you! This never really took off but no excuse for not having a huge player base now.

Xbox 360 (compatible with Xbox One)

  • Borderlands 2 (March 1-15) – classic first person with RPG elements. Sense of humour is strong here but maybe not to everyone’s tastes.
  • Heavy Weapon (March 16-31) – side-scrolling shooting action from PopCap games.

Playstation 4

  • Disc Jam – the beta recently was absolutely brilliant. This could be this year’s ‘Rocket League’. Fast paced futuristic tennis-style action.
  • Tearaway Unfolded – Vita classic enhanced for PS4 completes a good showing this month for PS4.

Playstation 3

  • Under Night: In-Birth – 2D fighting game crossed with a visual novel, with similar gameplay systems to the Guilty Gear and Blazblue series.
  • Earth Defense Force 2025 – manic third person shooter. Do you like blasting massive aliens, and lots of them? This may be for you.

PS Vita

  • Limo (also PS4) – isometric arcade adventure, full of lots of little references to 80s and 90s games. One for puzzle fans.
  • Severed – swipe to solve puzzles as a one-armed warrior with RPG-style upgrade systems.
