July 2020’s Free Games Preview

Pinch punch etc. etc. Restrictions easing (sort of) but there’s no shortage of free games this month which celebrates 10 years of PSN Plus, and with it an extra game to take this months Playstation tally up to 3.

WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship (Xbox One, July 1-31) – Realistic rally sim which has come on leads and bounds over the last few years, now a viable alternative to Dirt Rally

Dunk Lords (Xbox One, July 16-August 15) – arcadey 2v2 basketball action with special moves and power-ups.

Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360 and Xbox One, July 1-15) – my favourite Saints Row game. This one took the ‘GTA-lite’ flavour of the first game and started to forge its own identity. Controversial statement: I preferred it to the GTA games at the time.

Juju (Xbox 360 and Xbox One, July 16-31) – 2D platforming with a Shaman Panda and his lizard sidekick

Erica (PS4) – a psychological thriller told through FMV. Remember FMV? Erica is supposedly pretty darn good

NBA 2K20 (PS4) – it’s basketball! Mired in the controversy surrounding loot boxes, you don’t need to worry about that any more and instead can focus on slam dunking. Is that a thing?

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration (PS4) – Lara Croft is back in her 2nd outing (of the rebooted franchise). She’s well over her worries about killing and embarks on another massacre/adventure that is similar to the previous version, but still pretty good
