Final Fantasy Music Hits #16 in the Classic FM Hall of Fame

Following a brilliant campaign to video game music into the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2012 there’s been a double win. Not only did Skyrim’s theme tune land at number 238 (the chart is a hard-fought top 300) but Aerith’s Theme from Final Fantasy VII achieved a mind-boggling feat by leaping up to number 16, beating some hugely popular and well loved classics.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to vote after we featured this a while back, between you guys and visitors to other gaming sites you’ve managed to make history by getting some (admittedly gorgeous) gaming music into the nation’s favourite classical music chart. The full breakdown (which as I write is still being counted down) can be found here. Kudos to Mark Robins for making all this happen too, he’s worked his nuts off to get this music into the chart and it’s paid off in remarkable style!

If you missed it, or have no idea what I’m on about, or just want to hear a beautiful bit of music from one of the greatest games ever made, have a listen…

  1. I heard it on Classic FM tonight. I was at first disturbed to imagine some internet poll was about to taint the yearly countdown to number one until that is I heard the theme. Beuatiful in every way. Without you gamers this “purist” would not have known it even existed. I thank you all.

    • It’s great to hear you enjoyed it. I’m a classical musician as well as a gamer, in fact music has been in my life longer than gaming, so seeing the two worlds coming together is great to see 🙂

  2. I am so pleased for Nobuo! Aerith’s Theme is a fantastic track and definitely deserves some recognition! Cannot wait for Distant Worlds this November!

  3. Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with Search Engine Optimization?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains.
If you know of any please share. Kudos!
